Week Forty-four.

Hey there mama san! Ha ha I laughed when you titled your email to me, "Miranda san" Since Im your daughter, chan would probably be better. San is a little professional! But it was cute! Mi chan would probably be the most accurate Japanese nickname for me if you wanted to know ha ha. Cute.

So last week me and Sister Luk had quite the adventure with our investigator Hitoshi san. A while ago we texted him asking him when he wanted to have his next english/church lesson with us and he said, "can we do it will we look at cows?" and we laughed and replied and said, "sorry, your cows are kinda far for us and we only have bikes!" (Hitoshi san doesnt even live in Akita. He lives an hour or so away in a city called Oga) So then he replied and said, "Okay. Can we do it in Akita while we look at cats??" And we laughed even harder and replied, "Yeah sure! When do you wanna do it?" And we set up an appointment for this last Saturday! We kinda thought he was joking or something about the cat thing because we didnt know where you could go to just look at cats and teach a lesson at the same time. But then Hitoshi san came to our Tsuchizaki Eikaiwa on Friday and handed me and Sister Luk all these papers that he printed off the internet about places you can go to look at cats in Akita! We were laughing so hard. Typical Hitoshi san! He loves cats! So anyways, the next day in the afternoon we met at the church and biked a while to get to this cat cafe that was in town! I didnt really know what to expect exactly but when we walked into the cafe there were cats EVERYWHERE. Probably like 16 cats. There was like a giant cat house toy thing in the middle of the room and on the sides of the room were tables where the customers could sit and you could order drinks or little cakes just like a cafe if you wanted! But the cats were everywhere roaming free! They would jump up on our table or our laps and there were toys you could use to play with the cats. It was so funny and so cool. America needs cat cafes! We were able to teach an English lesson but we ran out of time for the church message so we planned to teach a short lesson later that night after a sports activity that we had planned.
Our sports activity was so fun. I got a pretty gnarly bruise on my knee from playing basketball. My district leader tripped me! Can you believe that?! Ha ha. But lots of people came. Hitoshi san came and so did Natsuko chan! Our funny ex-communicated dancing carp friend Tamura san came, like always. Also the elders had 1 investigator come and 2 potential investigators come, one of them being Justin from the Philippians! He has been way busy with school so we havent seen him around lately but he came! I found out that he is moving back to the Phillipians soon :(
After the sports activity it was kinda hard to teach Hitoshi san because we didnt have a joint and it was kinda in a weird setting and it was late. We ALMOST had a lesson. So close! We invited him to church though and he said he couldnt come in time for church but that he would come after work so we could talk and finally do our lesson. We waited forever but then he texted us and said that one of his cows escaped so work was going to go long. Ha ha ha I was bummed but it was also really funny. I mean come on! A Japanese cowboy that loves looking at cats and who gave us a live poisonous carp as a present?! I am pretty sure I have the coolest investigator ever.

The BEST thing happened to our companionship this week. I mean, being able to look at cats with Hitoshi san was pretty great, but this is even better! Saturday night I texted our other investigator Kai kun inviting him to not only Sacrament meeting but to Sunday School too. He had a lot of questions about what Sunday School was and so I had to explain it really really simply by saying kids your age all sit in a room in chairs and there is a teacher that will stand at the front of the room like school and teach about church things like prayer and God and everyone talks together and discusses. He replied and said, "Oh prayer? I have been doing that a lot lately!!" HES BEEN PRAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy! I replied and said, "Really?! I am so happy! And I know God is really happy too." But after that I went and took a shower and when I got out of the shower my companion said that Kai kun texted again and he said, "I want to learn, but I also kinda want to take a break. So I probably wont come tomorrow." I was SO sad. I thought he meant he wanted to tak ea break from the lessons and from learning about Christianity but my companion said she thought he meant that he just is probably tired from school and sports so he probably just wants to relax on Sunday but not stop the lessons. So that put me a little at ease. But anyways, on Sunday we went to church and in our branch we have RS and Priesthood first, then Sunday School, then Sacrament Meeting. Well I walked out of Relief Society and in the hallway is Kai kun! HE CAME TO CHURCH! Not just sacrament, but Sunday School too!! We ended up teaching him in a seperate room with the elders and some members about the Book of Mormon and the Holy Ghost. After that, we all went to Sacrament meeting and the talks were all about the priesthood and he had no clue what was going on so I hope he didnt have a bad experience. But I think it helps him to see his friends from school participating and setting good examples. But it was such a miracle that he came to church. He had a basketball game the day before and was travelling all day and he even got a black eye from his game and he still came to church! Amazing. Truly amazing.

Things are going good with our investigators. Out of the 3 companionships working in Akita, me and Sister Luk are pretty much putting up the numbers like nobodys business! We had 3 lessons total in the last 6 weeks. Woooo hoo! And our investigators are investigating for the RIGHT REASONS! Miracle miracle miracle! But.... I think the zone leaders are going to make us pass our investigators to the Elders. But I DONT WANT TO! Maybe that is selfish but I have a good reason! We tried passing Hitoshi san once when I first got to Akita and he stopped meeting with the missionaries for 6 weeks after that. And Elder Nishiie my district leader has a good relationship with Hitoshi san now,  but Elder Nishiie is probably getting transferred in one week! And the other elder doesnt really have a good relationship with him I dont think. He doesnt really talk to him very much when we have activities. Same with Kai kun. I think that me and Sister Luk are better for them. We have a way good relationship with them! So we will see what happens...

But thank you mom for your prayers. I can definitely see a difference in the missionary work here. I love you!
Love Miranda
